Experience

  • Lead support on Chief Actuary, With-profits Actuary, and Reviewing Actuary assignments across a number of insurers and Friendly Societies writing a wide array of products ranging from income protection, and with-profits to unit-linked and annuity products.
  • Part of Barnett Waddingham’s insurance regulatory updates group, which includes monitoring of updates to prudential regulation, including the ongoing Solvency II review.
  • Validation and review of actuarial work in areas of income protection modelling, economic performance of structured products, risk neutral economic scenario generators, and a bulk annuity pricing model.
  • Leading actuarial automation and transformation projects, including the development of a series of efficiency tools, the transformation of the business projection model of a large bulk annuity insurer, and demographic experience tools.
  • Supporting the Independent Expert on the transfer of non-profit annuities from a UK insurer to an Irish insurer.
  • Supporting initial matching adjustment applications, and subsequent extension of applications to cover new asset classes.
  • Supporting responses to the PRA 2021 QIS exercise for a large bulk annuity provider, a large mutual, and a small health cash plan provider. Support covered quantitative and qualitative responses in the areas of matching adjustment, management actions, risk margin calculations (under MOCE and risk tapering approaches) and behaviour of the TMTP under QIS scenarios.
  • Co-author of Barnett Waddingham’s annual with-profits investment report.
  • Governance reviews of investment management practices, and recommending practical and proportional improvements where identified.
  • Assessing the continued appropriateness of using the volatility adjustment for a large closed with-profits fund.
